Value of daughters in Islam

November 12, 2018Health comprises physical and psychological factors. If a woman is well physically, it will contribute towards her better mental health. Complete mental well-being is achieved by various external factors, which to a very large extent depends on the people around, their behaviour, their concerns.
Can a society, can a family help a pregnant woman achieve better health?
This is possible by creating an optimistic environment, relieving her of unnecessary stress, giving her the freedom to visit her parents and friends, redefining a mother’s role for her, counselling her, connecting her with other pregnant women, being there for her, lessening her burden of household chores, paid maternal leave in the last trimester, husbands accompanying to hospital visits, someone to look after her children, allowing her to sleep comfortably, ensuring a balanced diet for her; all this to let her have some quality time of her own, to connect the bond with the life inside her.
Supportive in-laws, empathetic husbands, motivating friends, concerned co-workers, helpful neighbours can help her achieve all this.
These things might seem impractical. But if it were followed, it would definitely contribute towards better women’s health and better raising of their children.
Try to make a positive impact on a pregnant woman’s life, even if it is just a small caring gesture. It does go a long way.
